The Missouri Department of Agriculture sets agriculture policy and provides assistance to farmers throughout the state, focusing on food related business.


The Missouri Department of Agriculture sets agriculture policy and provides assistance to farmers throughout the state. While the department maintains its regulatory functions, its expanded duties include consumer protection, public health roles, environmental advocacy, agricultural marketing, public information and awareness, promoting new technology and new uses for Missouri’s agricultural goods and financial assistance for agricultural businesses by providing business counseling, information and training on a sector-by-sector basis.

Staff also helps facilitate growth in Missouri’s agriculture-based industries by working with key partners such as universities, associates, private sector partners and federal and state agencies to aid in the growth of each sector.

Food Insecure Urban Agriculture Matching Grant Program: 

This is a competitive grant program and funds may be used to:

  • Increase food production and availability within an urbanized area
  • Demonstrate growth of local economic communities
  • Increase local economic impact
  • Increase the availability of food to local residents
  • Enhance already established areas within a community and provide assistance to the community

The program will provide cost share assistance to organic producers and handlers receiving certification or continuation of certification by a USDA accredited certifying agency starting October 1, 2019, and ending September 30, 2020.
