The HUBZone program awards federal contracts to businesses located in historically underutilized business zones. This program encourages economic development in historically underutilized business zones (HUBZones) through the establishment of federal contract award preferences for qualified small businesses located in such areas. To qualify for the HUBZone Program, a small business generally must be:
- Located in a “HUBZone”
- Be owned and controlled by one or more U.S. citizens
- Have at least 35 percent of its employees residing in a HUBZone
The SBA also certifies businesses through the 8(a)program.
