Legal Services of Eastern Missouri remains dedicated to helping families and individuals during this COVID-19 crisis. Legal Services is still “doing business” by having nearly all staff work remotely. Staff can be reached by their usual office email or telephone. 

Individuals who need our assistance can continue to call the toll-free number (800-444-0514) from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The online application for help is available anytime (24/7). Unfortunately, walk-in requests for assistance are not being taken at this time at this time due to COVID-19 safety concerns. 

Legal Services of Eastern Missouri  provides free civil legal assistance, advice and information for low-income people and the elderly in 21 Eastern Missouri counties. All communications are confidential and interpreters are available for the hearing impaired and non-English speakers. Accessibility accommodations are available as needed. 

Eligibility:

• Information and training services are open to the public
• Clients must meet financial eligibility of household incomes or meet other qualifications for consultation or representation 
• For profit business owners cannot make more that 300% above the federal poverty level based on their family size and have not more than $7,500 in savings.
• For nonprofits, eligible client organizations are those that serve underserved individuals in Eastern Missouri and show the nonprofit cannot afford to pay for legal help.
• Clients must have a completed business plan.
• Legal support is restricted to individuals or organizations in these 21 counties: Adair, Clark, Franklin, Jefferson, Knox, Lewis, Lincoln, Macon, Marion, Monroe, Montgomery, Pike, Ralls, Schuyler, Scotland, Shelby, St. Charles, St. Louis City, St. Louis County, Warren and Washington
