Entrepreneurship Legal Clinic (ELC) – University of Missouri

The Entrepreneurship Legal Clinic at the University of Missouri provides legal assistance to take startups from concept to capitalization. Upper level law students work hands-on with businesses under the supervision of an experienced, licensed attorney.

About

The Entrepreneurship Legal Clinic at the University of Missouri provides legal assistance to take startups from concept to capitalization.

Clients range from local Main Street and microenterprise startups to complex and highly investible businesses. Clients include MU faculty, staff, students and other Missouri entrepreneurs not associated with the university.

The ELC is a curricular offering, wherein upper level law students get hands-on experience under the supervision of an experienced, licensed attorney. In this sense, it is invaluable experience with live clients, similar to residencies in medical school.

The areas of law covered are numerous, including

  • entity selection/formation
  • intellectual property
  • contracts/transactions
  • employment
  • regulatory
  • tax
  • real estate
  • nonprofits
  • MBE/WBE/DBE (minority/women/disadvantaged business enterprises)
  • e-commerce
  • terms of service/use and privacy policies
  • trademarks

The ELC’s service are currently provided on a pro bono basis, with selected ELC clients paying only for their filing fees and other third-party costs. The ELC is an experiential “clinic” at the University of Missouri School of Law.

Submit your client application online and receive a follow up regarding your legal needs and your acceptance into the program within five to seven days.
