The stakeholder liaison is part of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Communication and Liaison Division.

The liaison provides all taxpayer communities, including major employers, community groups, industry associations and organizations with the latest tax information and resources the IRS has to offer. The goal of the liaison is to collaborate, inform and communicate IRS outreach messages with all taxpayer communities by delivering key messages and gathering input from our stakeholders.

The liaison partners with organizations representing small business and self-employed individuals to provide improved tax education products and services. The liaison also works with organizations representing small businesses and self-employed taxpayers to provide a forum in which their needs and preferences are addressed.

The IRS is committed to establishing a more customer-focused structure to better meet the needs of the American taxpayers. Tools are available to reduce the burden in understanding and applying tax rules and also reduce the burden associated with errors, late filings and payments. Information on a variety of topics is available, including deducting expenses, choosing a business structure, deciding on an accounting system and more.

Self-employed individuals can receive assistance regarding what types of schedules to file and whether they are a contractor or self-employed. Operating businesses can find information about employee wage reporting requirements, name changes and employer identification numbers. Within the IRS, Stakeholder Liaison Office has been instrumental in designing, developing and delivering educational products and services focused on small business taxpayers’ needs.
