About

The City of Washington Missouri is located on the banks of the Missouri River, approximately fifty miles west of St. Louis. The community has a rich German heritage, being founded in 1833 by twelve German families who were called followers of Gottfried Duden who settled in the area and wrote glowing reviews of the area for readers in his homeland.

Today Washington is quite proud of its German Heritage and has become a major employment and manufacturing center with over sixty industries. In addition, the community serves as a major medical center with over 100 doctors and a 150 bed hospital. The community also is a major retail center and banking center for Franklin County.

The community is centrally located between I-70 (23 miles to the north) and I-44 (10 miles to the east) of the St. Louis Metropolitan Area. Highway 100 is four lanes from within the City to I-44. Washington is considered an edge community on the outer 50 mile radius of the City of St. Louis. The City is within 55 miles of Lambert-St. Louis International Airport and downtown St. Louis with all of it’s cultural amenities such as theaters, museums, Busch Stadium, Edward Jones Dome, Scottrade Center, St. Louis Zoo, and Missouri Botanical Gardens.
