About

Recent years have seen a renewed interest in what Mariana Mazzucato calls the “Entrepreneurial State,” the notion that breakthrough innovations come not from competition among profit-seeking entrepreneurs and companies but from government programs. This panel looks at the nature of innovation in an entrepreneurial market economy and the role of government planners, funders, and regulators in promoting or hindering the technological progress that drives advances in societal well-being. Panelists will draw on insights from the “Austrian” school of economics which emphasizes the role of entrepreneurs, markets, and prices in driving economic improvement.
