Meet Columbia's Anne Churchill of Jubilee Planning Studio Coworking Space
Anne Churchill’s first entrepreneurial venture, AnnaBelle Events, began in 2010 with $500 and a desire to bring something new to event planning in Columbia, Missouri. A few years later, Anne identified a need for related event vendors and the clientele they served, “Several clients don’t need full-service event planning while vendors need an affordable space to collaborate with clientele and industry professionals,” says Anne.
After two years of research and speaking with vendors, Jubilee Planning Studio opened January 2017. “It’s a one-stop shop for everyone: clients are invited to visit for a free consult which then directs them to the vendor they need, and the vendors have a professional space with the features they need and the freedom to come and go for client events.” Other benefits of the collaborative workspace includes expo booth space, marketing and sponsorship.
Anne is grateful to her marketing background, networking and the Chamber of Commerce for assistance in developing Jubilee, but the upfront costs were a jolt. “Unlike AnnaBelle Events, I put in thousands of dollars for the building, branding, website and office staff,” she explains. “It was frightening to sign a 3-year lease, but it was something we needed as an industry.” The coworking space is currently home to six event vendors including a florist, caterer, calligrapher, event planner, and rental services. Anne’s goal is to add 10 more event vendors to their directory as well as expanding Jubilee as a franchise to surrounding cities.
Anne has learned from her own experiences that self-doubt is the biggest obstacle to growth and progress. “The biggest lesson is to never say no; it becomes a matter of how to say yes.” She states that there is a lot of burnout in her industry and with the development and growth of Jubilee Planning Studio, she believes the collaboration will bring new excitement and possibilities to event planning.
