On Monday, the University of Missouri announced plans for an expansion of Discovery Ridge, an emerging research park, in Columbia, Missouri. One look at the renderings, it’s obvious this 80,000 square-foot, multi-tenant building will hit the scene in dramatic fashion. The facility will include lab and office space, housing companies that focus on human health, veterinary medicine, nutrition, bioengineering, biology, environmental sciences and agriculture.

Learn how to jumpstart business in the Delta Region this summer, compliments of the Delta Region Microenterprise Development Alliance. The Alliance will be presenting a series of certification workshops designed to train organizations on how to better support microenterprise development in eight states, funded by the SBA.

After a week of so much chaos, it is with a heavy but hopeful heart that I write this next blog. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and businesses that were so devastated by the tornado that ravaged Joplin. We also want to send our support to Sedalia, St. Louis, Taney, Butler, Mississippi and New Madrid counties. It has been a difficult last month.

Yesterday, I got to join in on Missouri Governor Jay Nixon’s Small Business Roundtable at Farm to Market Bread Company in Kansas City, Missouri. In addition to enjoying the smell of freshly baking bread and carrying that smell home with me as a wonderful perfume, I got to listen to what small business owners say they need to grow.

We always receive calls about early childhood centers, but lately, I’ve received a lot of calls about long-term care facilities and even, “What kind of license do I need to transport dead bodies in Missouri.” Really? If this isn’t a prank, then I’ll have to look into it.
